Best Jump Starters Ranked

25 portable jump starters scored on price for their engine size, features, battery capacity and warranty.

Last updated: October 22, 2026

A portable jump starter starts a car with a dead battery without a second vehicle or jumper cables: clamp it to the battery, wait for the light, crank the engine. Most are small lithium packs that also charge a phone; heavier lead-acid boosters and supercapacitor starters, which recharge from the dead battery itself, are ranked here too.

The spec that matters is the engine size the maker rates it for, not the peak amps printed on the box. Peak amps has no agreed test and isn’t comparable between brands, so we show it but don’t score it. Pick a pack rated for at least your engine size, and go a size up for diesels or cold winters, since both need more current to crank.
