Best MPPT Solar Charge Controllers Ranked

12 MPPT solar charge controllers for 12 V and 24 V battery banks.

Last updated: October 22, 2026

An MPPT controller earns its keep with higher-voltage panel strings: it converts the extra voltage into extra current, so two or three panels wired in series charge faster and need thinner wire than the same panels in parallel. Size it two ways. The charge current sets how many panel watts it can use: about 14 W per amp on a 12 V battery, so a 30 A controller handles roughly 400 W. The maximum PV voltage sets how many panels you can wire in series; leave a margin, since panel voltage rises in cold weather.
