Best Winches Ranked

32 truck, Jeep, ATV and UTV winches, scored on price per pound of pull, line speed, current draw, sealing and warranty.

Last updated: November 1, 2026

A recovery winch pulls a stuck vehicle out of mud, sand or snow, or up an obstacle the tires can’t climb. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: how much pull you get for the money, how fast the line moves and how much current it draws at full load, how well it’s sealed and how long the electrics are covered.

Rated pull comes first. A common rule is about one and a half times the loaded weight of the vehicle, so a Jeep Wrangler or midsize truck usually wants 9,000 to 10,000 lb, a full-size pickup 12,000 lb and up, and an ATV or UTV 2,500 to 5,000 lb.

Rope is the next choice. Synthetic rope is lighter, floats and stores far less energy if it snaps; steel cable costs less and shrugs off abrasion and heat.
