Best Gas Water and Trash Pumps Ranked

31 gas water and trash pumps, scored on price per gpm, flow, head, solids handling and warranty.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

A gas pump moves a lot of water anywhere, with no outlet: draining a pool or flooded basement, emptying a pond, irrigating from a creek or filling a tank. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: how much flow you get for the money, how much it moves and how high, what debris it passes and how long it’s covered.

Port size is the first choice. A 2 in pump moves 100 to 200 gallons a minute, plenty for most homes and farms. A 3 in pump moves about twice that, for ponds, flooding and job sites.

Clear water or trash is the second. A clear water pump passes only small grit; a semi-trash pump handles sand and small stones; a trash pump passes stones, sticks and mud up to an inch or more. Muddy water clogs and wears out a clear water pump fast.

Head is the third. Maximum head is how high a pump lifts water with no flow left; the higher it is, the more flow it keeps when pushing uphill or through long hoses.
