For a basement bathroom or laundry with a lift of 15 to 20 ft that a 4/10 HP pump would struggle with.
Amazon $442.99A sewage ejector pump sits in a sealed basin under a basement bathroom or laundry and lifts the waste up to the main sewer line when the basin fills. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: flow for the money, flow at a typical 10 ft lift and at a higher 20 ft one, what it’s built from and how long it’s covered. Pumps that only move clear groundwater are ranked separately in Sump Pumps.
Lift is the first thing to work out: the height from the basin to the point where the discharge pipe joins the sewer line, plus about 1 ft for every 10 ft of horizontal pipe. Most basements need 8 to 15 ft, which a 1/2 HP pump handles. Longer or higher runs want 3/4 HP or more.
Solids are the second. Plumbing codes generally require a sewage ejector to pass a 2 in solid, and every pump ranked here does.
Build is the third. A cast iron pump sheds motor heat into the water and outlasts a plastic one, and costs more.
