A standalone converter is a self-contained box, usually deck mounted, with its own AC plug or cord and battery terminals. It replaces an older standalone unit in the same spot, or goes in alongside the RV’s panel to add output or a lithium profile, and it’s the usual choice for a van or trailer build with no factory panel. The bigger units draw enough from the AC side that they need a 20 A outlet or a dedicated breaker.
