Best Solar Attic Fans Ranked

17 solar attic fans, scored on price per CFM, airflow, panel power, features and warranty.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

A solar attic fan pulls hot, damp air out of the attic using power from its own solar panel, so it needs no wiring to run in the sun. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: how much air it moves for the money, how big a panel drives it, which controls and backup it has, and how long it’s covered.

Mount is the first choice. A roof mount fan sits in a round hole cut near the ridge, with its panel on top facing the sky. A gable fan mounts inside the attic behind an existing gable vent, so there’s no new hole in the roof, and its panel goes on the roof or a wall on a cable. A gable fan can only move as much air as the vent’s louvers let through.

Airflow is the second. A common rule is about 0.7 CFM for every square foot of attic floor, more under a steep roof or dark shingles. Rated airflow is the maker’s own figure, and the test behind it is rarely stated, so the panel’s wattage is a useful check: a small panel can’t drive a big fan hard.

Backup is the third. A solar only fan stops at night and on dark days. A hybrid fan adds an AC adapter that runs it from house power when the sun is weak, and a thermostat keeps either kind from running when the attic is already cool.
