Best Desktop CNC Routers Ranked

26 desktop and benchtop CNC routers, scored on price, work area, spindle power, motion system and warranty.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

A desktop CNC router moves a spinning cutter over a bed under computer control to carve signs, cut out parts and engrave wood, plastic and soft aluminum from a design file. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: what the machine costs as sold, how big a sheet it can cut, how strong its spindle is, how stiff and repeatable its motion system is and how long it’s covered.

Work area is the first choice. A compact 3018 or 4040 class machine fits on a desk and handles signs, coasters and circuit boards. A midsize machine of about 16 by 16 to 30 by 30 inches cuts furniture parts and larger signs, and a large machine up to a 4 by 4 ft bed takes full panels.

What comes in the box is the second. Some machines include a small DC spindle, some a 500 to 800 W trim router, and some, mostly the larger ones, are sold without any router, so the buyer adds one along with its cost.

Motion system is the third. Linear rails and ball screws hold a cut far more steadily than V-wheels and belts, which matters most for hardwood and aluminum. Limit switches let the machine home itself and return to the same zero after a restart.
