Best Tow-Behind Lawn Sweepers and Vacuums Ranked

18 tow-behind lawn sweepers and lawn vacuums, scored on price, hopper size, width or engine size, features and warranty.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

A tow-behind lawn sweeper or lawn vacuum hooks to a riding mower, lawn tractor or ATV and picks up leaves, pine needles and grass clippings as you drive. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: what it costs, how much its hopper holds, how wide it sweeps or how big its engine is, how easy it is to empty and store, and how long it’s covered.

Type is the first choice. A sweeper has brushes turned by its own wheels, so there’s no engine to fuel or maintain; it works best on dry leaves and clippings on a fairly smooth lawn. A vacuum has an engine-driven impeller, usually fed through a hose from the mower deck, so it pulls up wet and matted leaves, packs more into each load and costs several times as much.

Hopper size is the second. Every stop to empty the hopper adds a trip to the leaf pile, so a lot with many trees wants the biggest hopper the tractor can pull.

Width is the third, for sweepers. A sweeper about as wide as the mower deck picks up a mowed strip in one pass; a wider one clears an open lawn faster but has to fit through gates and between trees.
