For a small home or cabin with a fair signal outside that wants a cheap, simple kit with a long warranty.
Amazon $319.99A cell signal booster pulls in a weak outside signal with an antenna on the roof, amplifies it and rebroadcasts it inside a home, vehicle or RV, for every carrier at once. It can only work with the signal that reaches the outside antenna, so it turns one or two weak bars into usable service but can’t make a signal where there is none. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: price, gain, uplink power, the bands boosted and the warranty.
Where it goes is the first choice. The FCC allows a home booster up to 72 dB of gain and a booster used while driving up to 50 dB. RV boosters either work on the road at the mobile limit or work only when parked, with more gain and an antenna on a pole.
Gain is the second. The weaker the signal outside, the more gain matters; a home kit at 72 dB does more at the edge of coverage than one at 60 or 65 dB, which suits a house where the signal outside is fair and only the inside is weak.
The outside antenna is the third. A directional antenna (a Yagi or panel) reaches a far tower but has to be aimed at it; an omni antenna needs no aiming and suits a vehicle, an RV or a home with towers in several directions.
