A gas log splitter drives its hydraulic pump, or a heavy flywheel on a kinetic splitter, with a small engine. Most push 20 to 35 tons and cycle in under 15 seconds, enough for green oak, knotty rounds and splitting many cords a season. Many have road tires and a hitch so you can tow them to the woodpile, and some tip up to split vertically so heavy rounds roll onto the plate instead of being lifted.
