An electric fuel transfer pump moves diesel or gasoline from a barrel, a truck bed transfer tank or a farm storage tank into equipment. Most thread into the 2 in bung on top of the tank. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms: what it costs, how fast it pumps, how long it may run before it has to rest, whether it’s safety listed, what comes in the box, and how long it’s covered. Hand pumps, siphons, small cordless drum pumps and DEF pumps aren’t included.
Power is the first choice. A 12V DC pump runs off a truck or tractor battery, so it goes wherever the tank goes. A 115V AC pump needs mains power, usually hard wired, and suits a fixed tank at a farm or shop.
Safety listing is the second, and the one that matters most for gasoline. A UL listed pump with an explosion-proof motor, or one listed for hazardous locations, has been tested not to ignite fuel vapor. Many cheap pumps publish neither, and some are sold for gasoline anyway.
Flow and duty cycle come next. Most bung-mount pumps move 15 to 20 gallons a minute and must rest for 30 minutes after 30 minutes of running. That’s plenty for topping up a few machines. Fleets that fill all day want a continuous duty pump.
