A ceiling-hung air cleaner takes no floor or bench space and sends a steady flow through the room. Most come with hooks and chains, a remote and a 1 to 4 hour timer, so you can switch it on before you start and let it run after you leave. Check the filters before you buy: the outer pre-filter and inner filter wear out in a few months of heavy use, and replacement sets cost $15 to $80, more for the name brands. Many listings for the 780, 1080 and 1350 CFM units come in a version with a built-in ionizer; the ionizer is listed here, not scored, and some of these units can’t be shipped to California.
