For RV owners who want one gigabit router that bonds 5G, Starlink and campground internet.
Amazon $980A cellular router takes a SIM card and turns its connection into WiFi and Ethernet for everything inside a van, RV or cabin. It is the part that decides how well the connection works: whether a roof antenna can be attached, whether a second carrier takes over when the first drops, and whether it runs from the 12 V battery without a big inverter. These rankings compare what the makers publish on the same terms.
Routers or hotspots is the first choice, and both are ranked here as two types of the same product. A router has Ethernet ports and external antenna connectors and is wired to the vehicle’s power. A hotspot is a pocket device with its own battery, charged over USB-C, that is easy to move but usually has no antenna connectors and, on most models, no Ethernet.
Antenna ports are the second. Where the signal is weak, an outside antenna on the roof is the biggest single gain, and only a device with SMA or TS-9 connectors can use one. Four connectors suit a 4x4 MIMO roof antenna; two suit a pair of whips.
Power is the third. A router that takes 9 to 30 V directly runs from the house battery; one that needs USB-C or a mains adapter needs an adapter or an inverter. Draw matters when the batteries are all there is.
Carrier coverage decides more than any spec. A SIM from the carrier that works at the campsite does more than a faster modem on a carrier that doesn’t, which is why the SIM slots (two or an eSIM) are scored.
