The multi-provider portable pick. Choose it over a Playmaker if you may use DIRECTV or Bell TV; pick the black dome to match the rig.
Amazon $421.07 eBayAn automatic RV satellite antenna finds the satellite by itself, so there is no dish to aim by hand. These rankings cover the antennas sold to RV owners by Winegard and KING: portable domes that set on the ground or a mount and can also fix to a roof, and roof-mount dishes that fold flat for travel. Over-the-air TV antennas, receivers, tripods, mounts and cables sold alone aren’t ranked.
Provider is the first choice. Most portable domes are made for DISH alone. Winegard’s Carryout G3 and RoadTrip T4 also work with DIRECTV and Bell TV, though DIRECTV comes in at standard definition only on the positions they reach. The Trav’ler Pro comes in separate DISH and DIRECTV versions, and the DIRECTV one uses the single-wire multiswitch (SWM) feed.
In-motion is the second. Only the RoadTrip T4 is rated to track while the RV is moving. Every other antenna here is stationary: it finds the satellite after you park.
Portable or roof is the third. A portable dome weighs about 7 to 16 lb and costs roughly $300 to $800. A roof-mount unit weighs 10 lb (the RoadTrip) to 45 lb (the Trav’ler Pro) and costs about $1,700 to $2,250.
Power usually comes through the coax cable from the receiver, so no separate wire runs to the dish. The makers don’t publish a wattage; the RoadTrip T4’s 2 A maximum is the only current figure we found.
KING products are listed, but KING’s own store now shows a final liquidation notice and its product pages are offline, so its weight and warranty aren’t published and the product pages say so.
