Best Electric Fishing Reels Ranked

22 electric and power-assist fishing reels, scored on price per kg of drag, drag, line speed, weight and warranty.

Last updated: November 4, 2026

An electric reel has a motor that winds the line, so one angler can bring a rig up from hundreds of feet without cranking it by hand. These rankings cover the reels sold for deep-drop, bottom and offshore fishing: Daiwa’s Seaborg, Leobritz and Seapower, Shimano’s Beastmaster and Forcemaster, and PENN’s Fathom Electric. They compare what the makers publish on the same terms: what each costs for a kilogram of drag, how hard it can pull, how fast it winds under load, how heavy it is and how long it is warranted.

Maximum drag is the first choice, and the three ranking pages group reels by it: under 14 kg, 14 to 24 kg and 25 kg and up. A 10 to 16 kg reel suits tilefish, snapper and grouper in a few hundred feet of water. Heavier fish and the deepest drops call for 23 kg and more, and the largest reels here reach 30 to 36 kg.

Power is the second. Daiwa’s Seaborg and Leobritz reels run on 12 to 16.8 V DC and Daiwa says a 24 V boat supply will not work with them. Only the Seaborg G800MJ takes 12 to 24 V. Daiwa sells its reels with a power cord and no battery. PENN’s Fathom Electric kits ship with a cordless 5 Ah lithium-ion battery and charger, and the reel alone does not.

Line capacity is the third. The makers list capacity as a PE braid number and metres, so a reel is only comparable to another at the same line size. It is listed on each product page, and not scored, because the same reel holds very different lengths of different braids.

Imports matter. Many of these reels are Japan-market models that Amazon sellers ship to the US. They carry the Japanese maker’s warranty terms, not a US dealer’s, and their manuals and screens may be in Japanese.

Hand-crank reels, rod and reel combos, batteries, power cords and rod clamps sold alone aren’t ranked.
